The next chapter of Runemagick has entered its most decisive phase. Nicklas Rudolfsson is currently in the studio together with Andy La Rocque, shaping the new album through mixing and mastering at Sonic Train Studios.
This work continues the path set by Cycle of the Dying Sun (Dawn of Ashen Realms), yet moves further inward, beyond structure and into something more elemental. Era VI deepens, not by expanding outward, but by descending into what already exists beneath form and intention. The sound remains rooted in death, doom, and pagan metal, but carries a stronger sense of stillness, weight, and awareness of what unfolds in the absence of force.
These recordings have not been pushed into existence. They have emerged gradually over time, across different environments, through a process where listening has guided each step forward. Early demo recordings captured the first movements, fragments of something not yet fully formed, later returning in altered shape as the material continued to evolve. There is a continuity between these states, where nothing is entirely fixed, yet nothing is lost.
The material circles around what follows after collapse. Not the chaos itself, but the condition that remains when it has spent its force. A state where movement slows, where presence becomes more apparent, and where something begins to stir again beneath the surface. Not called upon, not shaped by intention, but existing on its own terms.
There are traces of runic current moving through the work, not as symbols to be interpreted, but as forces that persist beyond naming. Something older than language, carried through repetition, resonance, and subtle variation. Alongside this, a quiet animistic presence unfolds, where boundaries begin to loosen and the distinction between observer and surrounding grows less defined. What listens and what responds are no longer clearly separated.
The album moves through a passage of aftermath and awareness. Through night, through stillness, through a form of observation that does not seek answers. A kind of watch kept without expectation, where attention itself becomes the only remaining act.
Now, in its final stage at Sonic Train Studios, the details are being refined and the full shape is emerging. What began as demo recordings, layered compositions, percussion, and slowly evolving structures is becoming a unified work. Each element settles into place, not to stand out, but to contribute to the whole.
