Today marks the unveiling of “The Nocturnal Vigil”, the first single from the forthcoming Runemagick double album After Chaos: Nocturnal Vigil, to be released on September 18, 2026 through Hammerheart Records.
Rather than introducing a single moment within the album, The Nocturnal Vigil offers a first glimpse into its atmosphere and underlying current. The song dwells in the hours where action has dissolved into stillness, where darkness is not an absence of light but a state of heightened awareness. It is a vigil without expectation, where observation becomes presence and silence itself begins to speak.
Rooted in Runemagick’s characteristic blend of death and doom metal, the composition also embraces the more meditative and ritualistic aspects that have gradually become an integral part of the band’s evolving creative path.
After Chaos: Nocturnal Vigil unfolds across two parts, four movements, eight songs and eight runes. Each composition is dedicated to a specific rune, whose symbolic current is woven into both the music and the lyrics. Rather than telling a linear story, the album follows a gradual passage through collapse, stillness, the cosmic weave of Urðr, dissolution and continuance, inviting the listener into an unfolding journey where presence matters more than destination.
The album forms the central chapter of an ongoing trilogy that began with Cycle of the Dying Sun (Dawn of Ashen Realms). While each release stands on its own, those who have travelled the previous path may discover deeper connections as the cycle continues to unfold.
